Alessandro Gandolfi (born in Parma in 1970) is an Italian photographer and journalist, and co-founder of the agency Parallelozero. His work focuses on contemporary documentary storytelling, weaving together current affairs, social issues, and cultural transformations. His practice moves constantly between the local and the global, with an eye capable of rendering the complexity of phenomena without losing sight of the humanity of his subjects.
He contributes regularly to Italian and international publications including National Geographic, The Sunday Times Magazine, Geo, L'Espresso, Internazionale, and La Repubblica. His reportages address themes ranging from environmental dynamics to geopolitics, from social change to cultural identity, and have been produced across numerous countries around the world.
Over the course of his career he has received major international awards, including the World Press Photo, the POYi – Pictures of the Year International, the Best of Photojournalism from the National Press Photographers Association, and the Sony World Photography Award. His work has been exhibited at festivals and institutions worldwide, cementing his reputation as one of the leading figures in contemporary documentary photography.
In recent years he has deepened his inquiry into the relationship between science, technology, and society, exploring in particular the tensions between innovation and ethics. His photography is defined by a strong narrative sensibility and by the ability to render, through the image, stories in which the particular becomes a mirror of universal concerns.
