Alex Majoli (born in Modena in 1971) is an Italian documentary photographer, member of Magnum Photos and contributor to international publications including National Geographic, The New York Times, Le Monde and Stern. His practice explores the theatricality of the real, investigating how everyday life often takes on the qualities of performance and transforming direct observation into intense, compelling visual storytelling.
Throughout his career he has produced reportages across the world, addressing subjects ranging from urban life and social dynamics to political conflict and cultural transformation. His work bridges the power of photojournalism with a deep attention to composition and emotional resonance, creating images that tell universal stories through seemingly minor details.
Alex Majoli has received numerous international awards, including prizes from World Press Photo, POYi – Pictures of the Year International and the Sony World Photography Award. His images have been exhibited at festivals, museums and galleries worldwide, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the MUSÉE DE L'ELYSEE in Lausanne and the Festival Internacional de Fotografía de Buenos Aires.
In recent years his work has focused on the relationship between reality and representation, probing the fine line between what actually occurs and its narrative construction, with a visual approach that connects emotional depth with documentary rigour.
