Joan Fontcuberta was born in Barcelona in 1955. Artist, photographer, theorist and educator, for over forty years he has worked on the boundary between reality and fiction and on the credibility of images.

He received the Premio Nacional de Fotografía in 1998 and the Hasselblad Award in 2013. As an essayist, he won the Premio Nacional de Ensayo in 2011 with La cámara de Pandora (Gustavo Gili, 2010). In 2016 he published La furia de las imágenes. Notas sobre la postfotografía (Galaxia Gutenberg), for which he won the Premio Ciutat de Barcelona.
