Lorenzo Cicconi Massi
Born in Senigallia on 29 April 1966, Lorenzo Cicconi Massi has always explored the boundaries between reality and visual poetry. His sociological background already emerges in 1991, when he discusses his thesis "Mario Giacomelli e il gruppo Misa a Senigallia," a prelude to an ideal dialogue with the great masters of Italian photography.
In 1999 he wins first prize at the Canon Giovani Fotografi competition, and from January 2000 he joins the prestigious agency Contrasto, becoming one of its most recognizable names.
In 2003 he makes his debut in cinema as screenwriter and director with the film Prova a Volare, starring Riccardo Scamarcio, Ennio Fantastichini, and Antonio Catania.
In 2007 he receives the World Press Photo and the GRIN award with the series Fedeli alla Tribù, works that consolidate his photographic language, suspended between reportage and lyricism.
Author of the docufilm Mi ricordo Mario Giacomelli, he continues to weave together memory and contemporary vision in his international exhibitions: he exhibits at Paris Photo, and in 2016 brings the celebrated series Le Donne Volanti to Palazzo Montecitorio, at the invitation of the President of the Chamber of Deputies.
In 2017 he receives the Premio Scanno dei Fotografi, and the following year presents La Liquidità del Movimento in Capri, curated by Denis Curti.
In 2021 FIAF awards him the title of Maestro della Fotografia Italiana (MFI).
In 2024 he exhibits Gli Ultimi Contadini at the Festival della Fotografia Italiana and takes part in the exhibition Il Respiro della Terra, a two-person show with Christian Tasso curated by Alessia Locatelli.
Today Lorenzo Cicconi Massi continues to tell stories of life with a gaze that transforms the everyday into vision: a perfect balance between documentary rigor and visual poetry.
