Massimo Berruti
Massimo Berruti was born in Rome in 1979. A documentary photographer, he works on geopolitical and social dynamics and teaches Photography and Audiovisual at RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts.
He is best known for his long-term work in Pakistan, where he documented the country's recent history and its involvement in the "war on terror." The project Lashkars won the Prix Carmignac du photojournalisme in 2010 and became his first book, published by Actes Sud.
He has received two second prizes at World Press Photo: in 2007 in the Contemporary Issues category and in 2011 in General News, with Targeted Killings in Karachi. In 2009 he won the Visa d'Or Young Reporter at Visa pour l'Image, where he exhibited The Dusty Path, and in 2012 Lashkars was exhibited at the Rencontres d'Arles.
He worked with the agency VU' from 2008 to 2017, the year he co-founded MAPS Images. He has published in National Geographic, and his images are held in the Collection Carmignac and in the collection of MAXXI in Rome.
