Paolo Pellegrin
Paolo Pellegrin was born in Rome in 1964. He studied architecture at Sapienza University before turning to photography at the Istituto Italiano di Fotografia.
He joined Magnum Photos as a nominee in 2001, becoming a full member in 2005. For ten years, he worked under contract for Newsweek.
He has received ten World Press Photo awards, including first prize in the Daily Life category in 1995 and first prize in General News in 2002 and 2007. He won the Robert Capa Gold Medal from the Overseas Press Club (2006 awards) and the W. Eugene Smith Grant in 2006.
His books include Kosovo 1999–2000: The Flight of Reason (Trolley, 2002), As I Was Dying (Actes Sud, 2007), Double Blind (Trolley, 2007), Dies Irae (Contrasto, 2011), and Congo, co-authored with Alex Majoli (Aperture, 2015).
The MAXXI in Rome dedicated Paolo Pellegrin. Un'antologia (2018–2019) to him, curated by Germano Celant. In 2022, the Gallerie d'Italia in Turin presented La fragile meraviglia, his work on climate change.
