Diego Orlando
Diego Orlando is a photo editor and photographer with a background in the humanities and ecological sciences. He works on contemporary photographic language, photography publishing, and the production and artistic coordination of visual projects.
He is artistic director of InsideSouth, a permanent photography residency focused on the Mediterranean area and Southern Europe. Since 2021 the residency has been based in Sicily, and he is also creative director of WoodGarage Studio.
Until 2022 he served as Senior Photo Editor for Burnmagazine, where he was responsible for selecting work for publication, creating and art directing @BurnDiary and @BurnMagazine, and coordinating special projects such as the Emerging Photographer Grant.
Together with Burnmagazine, he received two Lucie Awards, for Best Photographic Magazine of the Year (2009 and 2016) and Best Photographic Publisher of the Year (2012).
In 2016 he worked as freelance photo editor for Benetton's magazine-catalogue Clothes For Humans, and in the following years he worked on photography and printing for corporate monographs, the most recent of which received a Special Mention for Photography at the Premio OMI 2022.
He has long collaborated with the Toscana Photographic Workshop and, together with Fabio Balan, founded the Premio Internazionale Winephoto.
His work in close collaboration with photographers to finalize their projects includes the curation of numerous editorial projects and photobooks, teaching activities, portfolio reviews, and exhibitions—the most recent of which is the result of his artistic direction of Residenza Radicale, a joint project between Fotografica Calabria Festival and Amarelli liquirizia, launched in 2024 and to be exhibited in full in 2025.
