Giacomo Scandurra
Giacomo Scandurra, born in Ragusa in 1984, discovered photography at fifteen, thanks to his father, who passed on to him a curiosity for light and for the act of looking. From his first Ninja Turtles toy camera to the darkroom, everything soon became a rite of initiation: the image as magic, time as matter to be suspended.
After earning a degree in Scienze della Comunicazione and a master's degree in Scienze dello Spettacolo e Comunicazione Multimediale, culminating in a thesis on Carmelo Bene, he came to understand that artistic vision can be an act of rebellion and independent thought.
In the years that followed, he worked in the wedding industry, alternating reportage work with teaching at Harim – Accademia Euromediterranea in Catania, where he taught History of Photography, Image Reading, and Photographic Technique.
Today his research focuses on photography as a language of identity and introspection. More than technique, he is drawn to the ideas, obsessions, and visions that dwell behind every image: because for him, photography is not merely aesthetics, but a way of revealing the world — and oneself — through light.
