Gianmaria De Luca
Gianmaria De Luca is a photographer and visual artist born in Rome in 1988, where he still lives and works today.
Drawn from the very beginning to the evocative power of the image, he chose photography — though not in the conventional sense — as a tool to investigate reality, transform it, and give it back as visual poetry.
His work brings together documentary sensibility and artistic experimentation: photographs, installations, camera obscura, analogue techniques and handmade prints. Through this approach, his images are never simple photographs: they are suspended visions, worlds balanced between memory, light, shadow and time.
Gianmaria has exhibited his projects — both solo and group — in various venues in Italy and abroad: among the most significant milestones are institutions such as Théâtre de la Monnaie (Brussels), European galleries, and cultural spaces in Switzerland, Germany, Northern Ireland and Australia.
His works are often the result of interdisciplinary collaborations: with costume designers, set designers, and artists, with contributions to theatre and design, reportage and art photography — a path that reflects a broad and versatile vision of the photographic medium.
Today his studio is based in Rome: from there, he continues to explore the meeting point between tradition and experimentation, seeking to tell stories made of light, matter, and suggestion — images that do not merely show what is there, but evoke what might be.
