Giovanni Gastel
Giovanni Gastel (Milan, 1955 – Milan, 2021) began his photographic career in the late 1970s. Throughout the 1980s, he established himself as one of the leading figures in international editorial photography, working with magazines such as Vogue Italia, Elle, Vanity Fair, and Mondo Uomo.
Over the course of his career, he produced campaigns for numerous fashion houses, including Dior, Ferragamo, Missoni, Tod's, and Versace. Alongside this commercial work, he developed a personal artistic practice that led him to exhibit in museums and institutions worldwide.
In 2020, the MAXXI in Rome dedicated a solo exhibition to him, The People I Like, featuring a collection of over two hundred portraits of figures from the worlds of culture, art, and entertainment. Gastel also served as president of AFIP International.
