Michael Ackerman
Michael Ackerman (Tel Aviv, 1967) is a visual artist known for a radical, atmospheric language, marked by expressive black and white and a profound attention to emotional states. Raised in New York, he soon developed a poetics that moves beyond the boundaries of documentary to reach a territory suspended between memory, inner vision, and urban drift.
His first book, End Time City (1999), awarded the Prix Nadar, marks the beginning of an international path that sees him engaging with cinema, literature, and music through images charged with strong narrative power. The following works, Fiction and Half Life, consolidate his identity as an author: an observer of the dark, fragile side of existence, close to a cinematic aesthetic made of fragments, ellipses, and atmospheres.
His works are held in major museum collections, and Ackerman is today regarded as one of the key figures in contemporary fine art photography, capable of rendering visions that unfold like cinematic sequences—intimate and unsettlingly poetic.
